Shop Common Thread is a women's clothing boutique at 369 E. 17th Street in Costa Mesa, California. This is where we started. We opened these doors in 2006 as a maternity shop called Xpecting, and some of the women who shopped with us that first year still shop with us now.
Twenty years later it is 2,400 square feet and more than 80 brands. You can walk in without an appointment and someone will build outfits with you. There is no styling fee and no minimum purchase. If you would rather browse on your own, that is completely fine. We will be nearby when you want us.

We started as a maternity shop. The women who shopped with us for their first baby came back for their second, and then kept coming back long after they needed maternity clothes. So we changed what we carried and kept the part that mattered, which was knowing them.
That is still how this store runs. Our team knows what you bought last spring, what fits you and what you will actually wear. It is the reason women drive here from Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Irvine and Corona del Mar when there is a mall much closer.
How a visit usually goes
Tell us where you are going and how much time you have. That is normally all we need to get started. We pull a fitting room for you while you look around, and we run sizes so you are not getting dressed twice.
One thing happens almost every time. Something goes into your fitting room that you would never have pulled for yourself, and it is the piece women end up buying more than anything we plan.
More than clothes
The flagship carries the widest selection we have, which is why it is worth the drive if you are deciding between the two stores. Over 80 brands, plus gifts, jewelry and the pieces that never make it online because they sell through here first. Everything is gift wrapped, and returns and exchanges can be handled at either location.

Do I need an appointment to get styled?
No. Walk in any time we are open and ask. If you want a set time with a specific stylist, call the store at 949-574-2184 or text 949-524-5837 and we will hold it.
What does personal styling cost here?
Nothing. There is no fee and no minimum purchase. It is not a service we sell, it is how we shop with you.
Is parking hard on 17th Street?
Not here. There is a free lot directly in front of the store.
