The layer that finishes the outfit
A top and a bottom is an outfit that stopped early. Something over the top is what makes it read as a decision rather than an accident. It's the fastest change you can make to an outfit you already own.
What to look for
- Check the shoulder before anything else. The seam should land where your shoulder ends. Too wide and it swallows you, too narrow and it pulls when you reach for a seatbelt.
- Try it over the bulkiest thing you'd wear under it. A jacket that only closes over a tank isn't a jacket, it's a shirt.
- Cropped or long is about proportion, not trend. Cropped with wide leg trousers. Longer over leggings or slim denim.
