One dress, three occasions
A midi is the length that solves the most problems. Long enough for a wedding, short enough that it doesn't feel like a costume at a birthday dinner.
Getting the length right
- The hem should hit mid-calf or just below. Hitting at the widest part of the calf is the one length that makes almost everyone look shorter.
- Match the shoe to the hem. A flat sandal with a slimmer midi. A heel or a chunky sneaker with a fuller skirt.
- Look for a fabric that moves. Midis that hang stiff read formal even when they aren't.
What's busiest on our dress floor
Midi is the busiest part of our dress floor. Shirt dresses, soft florals and anything you can put a denim jacket over are what women are choosing this season. If you want the current selection, this is a page worth checking weekly.
What can I wear a midi dress to?
Almost anything short of black tie. With a denim jacket and sneakers it's a Saturday. With a heel and gold jewelry it's a wedding guest. The length is formal enough for an event and casual enough for daytime, which is why it's the most useful dress shape to own. If you own one dress, own this one.
